Grants

The main order of business was a review of current grant proposals. The following grants were approved for funding:

  • The Denver Zoological Foundation is awarded $1,000.00 to determine if the carnivore community in Yellowstone Park is diversifying in the presence of wolves.

Grants

The next order of business was a review of the few grants proposals we had this session. The following grant proposals were funded:

  • To Oberon $2,500.00 to continue the garden, chickens and education program at the Cromwell Valley site.

Grants Not Funded

  • Ervine Nature Center for printing costs for one of their programs, since their programs are already generously funded.
  • Poor Clare Monastery in Montana for a wind turbine, since there is no monastery built yet.
  • A.R.E. “YES” group leader’s manual and A.R.E. retreat for young adults resource program since we have just funded two other A.R.E. projects.

Grants

Most of the remainder of the meeting was taken up with a review of grant applications. The following grants were awarded:

  • To produce THE WORLD GAME at Notre Dame College on April 22, 2005 we award a grant of $5,000.00. Along with honor students at Notre Dame the Board will invite up to 200 participants, each of which will be invited to make a $10.00 donation-the proceeds going to a peace organization yet to be determined.

The meeting got right down to the business of evaluating grant proposals. Of the proposals submitted the following were awarded funding:

  • The Community Christian School of Wilmar, Minnesota is awarded $2,000.00 to help involve students to preserve a natural habitat in their area.

  • Wendy Cooper is awarded $1,000.00 to continue her effort to develop biodegradable women’s hose.
  • The Greenmount school is awarded $2,000.00 to help support a summer camp experience for inner city children which is child centered, multicultural and progressive.

  • The Greening Initiative is granted $2,000.00 to turn abandoned lots in the inner city of Baltimore into small parks.

  • The Center for Environmental Equity is granted $1,000.00 to begin a pilot project to remove hazardous wastes from households impaired by age, mobility or mental acuity.

Grants

When Sister Dorothy left the meeting there was a consideration of a large number of grant proposals. Most of these were not suitable to or in compliance with Koinonia’s guidelines so only the following four were funded:

  • The Boys and Girls Club of Cecil County are awarded $1,990.00 to launch a 10 week environmental education and awareness program for young people.
